On the pedals
Zeeland is fantastic for cycling!
In 2019 Zeeland was even named a 5-star cycling province by the National Cycling platform. What is important for achieving this level are the quality of the cycling network, the maintenance of the network, the accessibility of the route information and the many cycling cafés along the way.
Cycling over dikes, alongside the water and through the polders
Discover the beautiful dune landscapes, relaxing forests, salt marshes and mudflats, and endlessly extending polders, all while cycling. Along the way you can also see a lot of cultural history in the Zeeland Landscape because of its long battle against the water. The many cycling paths and country roads offer you a varied view and you cycle through characteristic cosy villages. Because of these cycling paths it is also especially safe to enjoy and discover, along with your whole family.
Cycling junctions in Zeeland
You can easily map out your own cycling route with the bike network in Zeeland (FIKS). What length and along where would you like to cycle? You can very easily, and according to your own wishes, cycle your own route in Walcheren, or anywhere else in Zeeland.
There are three bicycle route maps (FIKS) in Zeeland:
- Zeeland Noord where you cycle through Schouwen-Duiveland, Goeree-Overflakkee and Sint Philipsland
- Zeeland Midden shows you the best of Walcheren, de Bevelanden and Tholen
- Zeeland Zuid: on the “other side” of the water you cycle in Zeeuws-Flanders
The Zeeland Midden Bike route card is for sale at the reception of our hotels.
Our tip: when putting compiling your cycling route, be sure to take a moment to visit one of the local companies. In Walcheren you find cheese farms, picking gardens, various farm and country shops and an ice cream farm. You can view the sites, have something to drink or rest a while. Buy something tasty for home from our region! This way you can still enjoy your Zeeland holiday, at home.
There are so many possibilities for cycling in Zeeland and just as many route providers. Take a look for yourself on the internet or at the local VVV or Tourist Information, and you will always find a route that suites you. Especially for children, themed routes, routes with an App, where you are informed about everything along the way, but also routes for the experienced long-distance cyclist or mountain biker.
